CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference placed 1,903 out of 3,459 student-athletes -- 55.02 percent -- on its prestigious annual Presidential Honor Roll for the 2015-16 academic year, it was announced today by Big South Conference Commissioner Kyle B. Kallander.  To be named to the Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better for the recently-completed academic year.  The 55.02 percentage marks the second consecutive year above 50 percent.

High Point University led all Big South institutions for the second straight year, as HPU had 74.37 percent of its 238 student-athletes on the Presidential Honor Roll -- one of five members to have at least 60 percent on the list.  UNC Asheville placed 69.10 percent of its 178 student-athletes on the list, while Winthrop University had 61.11 percent of its 270 student-athletes among the honorees.  Radford University eclipsed 60 percent for the second time in four years with 60.73 percent of its 247 student-athletes on the annual listing.  In addition, 138 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA in 2015-16, and each of the Big South’s 19 sponsored sports had at least one 4.0 student.

“The Big South Conference has always taken a lot of pride in the academic accomplishments of its student-athletes,” said Kallander.  “To have more than half of all student-athletes make the Presidential Honor Roll for the second consecutive year is a reflection of the outstanding individuals in the conference and their priorities, as well as our athletic departments’ commitment to providing support and resources to academic services.  We are all extremely proud of the achievements of these fine young men and women.”
