Winthrop Upends Campbell, 3-1, to Reach Semifinals

The sixth-seeded Winthrop Eagles dropped the first set but won the next three to win 3-1 against No. 3 seed Campbell Friday night in Big South Tournament Quarterfinals.  Junior Phoebe Wu led the Eagles with 14 kills and 13 digs, while junior Marion Vaucher helped the Eagles with 14 kills.  The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow Saturday against No. 2 seed Radford beginning at 7 p.m. in the Semifinals.

Winthrop started on a 5-3 run with Campbell having three attack errors
The Camels went on a 6-0 run to lead the set 9-6
Campbell continued to put on points as they were up 20-12 that forced Winthrop to call a timeout
The Eagles tried to fight back but were unable to as they dropped the first set 25-17
Senior Keaupono Fey had three kills and one error
 
Set 2
The Eagles started on a 4-1 run
Campbell tied it at 6-6 and both teams fought back-and-forth until Winthrop started pulling away at 13-10
Winthrop went on a 5-1 run that forced Campbell to call their second timeout
Winthrop cruised to victory of 25-18 in the set
Wu had six kills in the set which sophomore Sydney Gunter had four kills
 
Set 3
Both teams fought back-and-forth until Winthrop went up 9-5
Campbell brought it within one until Winthrop went on a 6-0 run to make it 20-13
Winthrop easily finished the set to win 25-17
Wu had five kills in the set while Vaucher had 6 kills
 
Set 4
Campbell started the set on a 5-1 run
Winthrop went on a 9-3 run to tie it at 8
Winthrop did not let Campbell lead the rest of the set
The Eagles won the set 25-19
Vaucher had four kills while sophomore Hannah Lackey had four digs
