No. 3 Presbyterian College Eliminates No. 6 Longwood, Advances to Semifinals
The Presbyterian College men’s soccer team cruised to a 3-0 win over Longwood in the first round of the Big South Tournament on Sunday night at Martin Stadium.
Freshman Marcos Kitromilides scored on an open goal to give PC the 1-0 lead in the 20th minute of the game. Junior Sergio Pinto took an initial shot that was saved and rebounded to Kitromilides for his team-leading sixth of the season.
At the half, PC led on shots 9-3 and on corner kicks 2-1. Jan Hoffelner had two saves, while Longwood’s Jacob Reimers had five saves.
Just over a minute into the second half, Clement Vannier scored a fast-break goal to put PC up 2-0. The sophomore scored his fourth of the year off a lead pass from Victor Menudier.
Plamen Mangarov then put the game away with a shot from just inside the 18-yard box in the 76th minute. It was his first goal of the season and came off an assist from Ricardo Hernandez.
Hoffelner picked up the win to improve to 7-9 and record his fifth shutout of the year. PC held a 21-9 advantage on shots for the game, and the Lancers’ Reimers recorded nine saves.
No. 3 seed PC improved to 7-11 on the year, while sixth-seeded Longwood fell to 5-13-1 with the loss.
