No. 10 Longwood Downs No. 7 High Point To Advance to Quarterfinals

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Longwood's veteran backcourt trio of B.K. Ashe, Charles Glover and Isaiah Walton all scored in double figures to lead the 10th-seeded Lancers  to a 68-55 first-round upset win over seventh-seeded High Point on the opening night of the Big South Championship.

Longwood's big three combined to score 40 points as part of a team-wide effort that saw the underdog Lancers (7-25) deliver the first upset of the 2018 Big South Championship. Glover and Walton scored a team-high 14 apiece, while Ashe added 12.
 
The first-round win sends to the Big South Championship quarterfinals where they will face No. 2 seed Radford Thursday in Asheville, N.C. Longwood has now advanced to the Big South Championship quarterfinals in three of the past four seasons and improves to 5-5 all-time in the conference tournament.
 
High Point (14-16) defeated Longwood twice during the regular season but ran into a reenergized Longwood team that used a harassing defensive effort to force the Panthers into 17 turnovers and hold them to .396 (21-of-53) shooting from the field and .235 (4-of-17) from three-point range.
 
Led by a pair of three-steal efforts from forwards Jordan Cintron and Damarion Geter, Longwood leveraged those turnovers into 26 points and outscored High Point 15-2 on fast breaks.
 
Jahaad Proctor led High Point with 16 points but shot 5-of-16 from the field and committed five turnovers. Justyn Mutts added 11 points, five rebounds, four blocks and a pair of steals.
 
Longwood's quarterfinal matchup against Radford Thursday will tip off at 1 p.m. in Kimmel Arena, home of Big South regular-season champion and tournament host UNC Asheville.
