Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - April 23

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty sophomore Amber Bishop (Murrieta, Calif.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week for games played April 16-22, while junior teammate Julia DiMartino (Brockport, N.Y.) is the conference’s Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season. In addition, Gardner-Webb’s Katie Prebble (Pomfret, Md.) receives her fifth Freshman of the Week honor, the conference office announced Monday.
 
Bishop went 6-for-12 (.500) with one double, three homers, five runs scored, four RBI and three walks last week as she helped Liberty go 4-0. On Tuesday against Virginia Tech, she went 2-for-3 with a double, one homer, an RBI and a run scored. Then on Friday in a 5-0 win over CSU, she batted 2-for-3 with a homer, RBI and two runs scored. During Saturday’s first game against the Bucs, Bishop had one hit in two trips to the plate with two walks, one RBI and two runs scored. She then batted 1-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday’s series finale.
 
DiMartino helped the Lady Flames to a 4-0 record last week by going 3-0 in the circle with a 0.00 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched, one shutout, one save, 23 strikeouts, two walks and a .175 opponents’ batting average. She pushed her personal scoreless streak to 28.2 innings and went over 20 wins for the second straight season. On Tuesday against Virginia Tech, she pitched the final five innings in relief and struck out eight against just one walk and five hits. On Friday, DiMartino tossed a four-hit shutout, with seven strikeouts and just one walk in a 5-0 win over Charleston Southern. In Saturday’s first game, with Liberty leading 5-2, she retired all six batters she faced to nail down her conference-leading and program-record sixth save of the season.
 
Prebble went 10-for-18 (.556) last week with two home runs, seven RBI, five runs scored, three walks and a triple. She belted her first HR of the week in a victory against Charlotte, while her second came in the opening game against Radford. In an 8-0 win against South Carolina State, Prebble went 2-for-2 with an RBI single and two-run triple.
