Seedings Announced for 2018 Softball Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the second consecutive year, Liberty is the No. 1 seed in the Big South Softball Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting, which will be contested May 9-12 at the Radford Softball Stadium on the campus of Radford University. The Lady Flames finished 2018 with an 18-3 Big South record (44-12 overall) to win the outright regular-season championship.

Three-time defending conference champion Longwood is the No. 2 seed after concluding league play one game back of Liberty at 17-4.  Host Radford is the No. 3 seed -- its highest standing since being third in 2014, as the Highlanders finished 13-8 in conference action.  Campbell claimed the No. 4 seed at 12-9, while Gardner-Webb is the No. 5 seed following its 8-13 finish in Big South games.  Winthrop (7-14) earned the sixth and final seed, as the Eagles won the tiebreaker over Charleston Southern based on their 2-1 season series win over the Buccaneers.


The 2018 Softball Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting begins Wednesday, May 9 with three games scheduled and concludes Saturday, May 12 with two potential Championship contests starting at 12:00pm.  Games on May 9 will be carried on the Big South Network, while day two action on May 10 will be available on ESPN+.  ESPN3 will air three games on Friday, May 11 as well as Saturday’s Championship day.  The Big South’s champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Championship.  In-game statistics will be available on www.BigSouthSports.com.  The Conference Championship schedule is below and is subject to change due to weather.
