Hampton Tops Preseason Men's Indoor Track & Field Poll
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Defending Big South champion Hampton University has been voted the favorite in the annual Big South Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field preseason poll by the league’s head coaches, the conference office announced Thursday afternoon. The Pirates were a near unanimous favorite with seven of the eight first-place votes.
Hampton tallied 63 total points in the poll, ahead of Campbell, who garnered the remaining first-place vote and 55 points. High Point claimed third with 48 points, while Charleston Southern finished fourth in the voting with 42 points. USC Upstate was fifth in the preseason standings with 31 points, followed by Winthrop in sixth at 19 points. Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville tied for the seventh position at 15 points each.
The 2019-20 Big South men’s indoor track & field season begins this weekend, Dec. 6-8, with five teams in action. The 2020 Big South Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship is slated for Feb. 28-29 at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.
