Hampton Voted Preseason Women's Indoor Track & Field Favorite
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Defending Big South champion Hampton University is the top team in the annual Big South Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field preseason poll, as voted by the league’s head coaches and announced Thursday afternoon by the conference office. The Lady Pirates received 79 total points (seven first-place votes) for the top spot in the voting.
High Point was second to Hampton with 70 points (one first-place vote). Campbell totaled 64 points and the remaining first-place vote for third-place, while Charleston Southern claimed fourth with 56 points. Radford and USC Upstate tied for fifth in the polling with 38 points each, followed by UNC Asheville (seventh – 23 points), Winthrop (eighth – 22 points) and Gardner-Webb (ninth – 15 points).
The 2019-20 Big South women’s indoor track & field season begins this weekend, Dec. 6-8, with six teams in action. The 2020 Big South Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship is slated for Feb. 28-29 at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.
