Big South Announces 2019 Women's Tennis Championship Seedings
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) -- Three-time defending champion Winthrop University has clinched the No. 1 seed in next week’s Big South Women’s Tennis Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting, it was determined following the conclusion of the conference season today. The Eagles won the outright 2019 regular-season championship with a perfect 9-0 record for their second consecutive undefeated league slate.
Presbyterian finished 7-2 in league action to secure the No. 2 seed -- its highest-ever Big South Championship seeding. Gardner-Webb (No. 3 seed) and Campbell (No. 4) tied for third in the standings at 6-3, and the Runnin’ Bulldogs secured the No. 3 seed based on their 5-2 win over the Camels during the campaign. Charleston Southern (No. 5 seed) and Radford (No. 6) each went 5-4 in conference play, and the Buccaneers earned the No. 5 seed with their 6-1 regular-season victory over the Highlanders. UNC Asheville (3-6) landed the seventh seed, while first-year member USC Upstate tied Longwood for eighth-place at 2-7. The Spartans claimed the No. 8 seed with their 4-3 triumph over the ninth-seeded Lancers. First-year member Hampton (0-9) rounds out the seeding at No. 10.
The 2019 Big South Women’s Tennis Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting will be held April 16-19 at Radford University. The event begins Tuesday, April 16 with two first round matches and concludes with the Championship contest on Friday, April 19. The Big South’s Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship. The Championship schedule is as follows, and is subject to change:
