Radford Defeats Presbyterian for Semifinal Berth, 4-1
RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's tennis team has only lost one match at the Radford Tennis Complex all season and it came to Presbyterian on Senior Day earlier this month. The two seniors got their revenge in a 4-1 victory over the Blue Hose in the Big South Conference Quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon.
Alexandros Caldwell and Michiel Meekers put Radford on top 1-0 when they clinched the doubles point on court 2. The duo's success would not be over as they each added wins on their singles courts.
With the Highlanders in control, 2-1, Meekers gave Radford a 3-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court 4. Then the other senior and second team all-conference member, Caldwell, sealed the match for Radford with a 7-5 second set victory.
Andres Silva took care of Jonathan Bedard, 6-2 and 6-1, on court 6 in the first singles match to finish. That put Radford ahead 2-0, until Daniel Stenger cut into the lead with a win on court 1.
One match was already in a third set but it didn't matter as Meekers and Caldwell took care of business.
