Hampton University alumnus Greg Scott is on a mission to end childhood hunger in southeastern Virginia. The Hampton football standout and retired NFL defensive lineman is working through his nonprofit, Cover 3 Foundation, to provide healthy meals to youth at after-school and summer programs throughout his local community.

Founded in 2009, Cover 3 Foundation (C3F) works to reduce the 10.1 percent of Virginia’s households who report the inability to access adequate food for their children due to a lack of money and other resources. C3F’s Kids’ Meals acts as a tool to feed at-risk children, teach nutrition education, and offers a platform to educate children on portion control and nutrition. This combats food insecurity, childhood obesity, and reduces health problems caused by poor nutrition, according to the organization’s website.

“I started Cover 3 Foundation because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of thousands of at-risk youth through fighting childhood hunger,” said Scott. “I learned about how big of a problem this was through a mentor and friend, Gary Singleton, whom had been a part of both the Hampton University Police Force and Hampton University Football Coaching Staff. [I am] thankful for the knowledge he passed to me.”
