Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 10
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Campbell midfielder Kyoji Hata (Tokyo, Japan) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Radford goalkeeper Joseba Incera (Santurtzi, Spain) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 3-9, it was announced today. In addition, Winthrop keeper Gareth Shaw (Houston, Texas) is the Freshman of the Week.
Hata recorded a goal and four assists in Campbell’s two wins last week. In the Camels’ 5-1 win at Longwood on Wednesday, he assisted on the first and fourth goals of the night as Campbell built a 4-0 lead in the opening half. On Saturday vs. UNC Asheville, Hata scored the equalizer and assisted on both the second and third goals in Campbell’s 3-1 victory over UNC Asheville.
Incera was perfect last week with two clean sheet victories in 180:00 minutes played. He made three stops in Radford’s 3-0 home win over Winthrop on Wednesday, and then tallied a career-high 12 saves in Saturday’s 1-0 triumph at USC Upstate.
Shaw started his first collegiate appearance on Saturday and recorded a shutout with a 1-0 victory over Longwood. He made four saves -- including a penalty kick stop plus the ensuing rebound attempt from six yards out to preserve the Eagles’ 1-0 advantage.
Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Nacho Gallego (Presbyterian), Jared Dubose (Radford) and Christopher Cushing (Winthrop).
