FARMVILLE, Va. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – With five of the top nine finishers, High Point claimed its Big South-record sixth consecutive Women’s Cross Country championship and eighth in the last nine seasons on Saturday morning in Farmville, Va.  HPU’s Lindsey Ickes crossed the finish line first in 16:45.2 to win the individual title of the 5K race -- becoming the Panthers’ fifth individual champion in the past six meets.

High Point closed the day with 25 points to become the first school in Big South history to win six-straight Women’s Cross Country titles and breaking the previous record of five first set by Coastal Carolina from 2001-05.  Charleston Southern (57) was second, followed by Radford (75) in third in the team standings.  In addition to Ickes, the Panthers were buoyed by Ashley Jones (fourth, 17:35.0), Katie Taylor (fifth, 17:45.0), Camryn Harper (sixth, 17:45.1) and Charli Montalvo (ninth, 17:59.0) on Saturday.

Ickes finished :14 seconds ahead of runner-up finisher Dorcus Ewoi of Campbell (16:59.6), while Radford’s Chloe Wellings was third at 17:21.9.  Charleston Southern’s Sarah McCartney was seventh with a time of 17:49.2.  The top seven finishers earned First-Team All-Conference medals.

HPU’s Montalvo received Freshman of the Year honors for her ninth-place finish -- the Panthers’ second Big South Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year honoree in three seasons.

Following the race, High Point’s Remy Tamer was voted the Big South Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year for first time since 2019 and fourth time overall, while Presbyterian’s Lili Jaraczewski was voted the Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league’s sports information directors.  The full team standings along with this year’s honorees are listed below.
