By Campbell Athletics
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Moses Mensah of Campbell University is one of 38 players nationwide named to the 2022 Hermann Trophy Watch List.
Presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, the Hermann Trophy is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.
A senior left back from Cape Coast, Ghana, Mensah is a three-time All-South region and first-team All-Big South Conference performer. He has started all 53 games he has played the last three seasons and helped the Camels win four Big South trophies and make a pair of NCAA College Cup appearances.
Mensah was also ranked as No. 2 prospect in the USL League 2 while playing for One Knoxville in Summer of 2022. He was invited to participate in the MLS Showcase last December.
Last season, Mensah helped Campbell post a 15-4-2 overall record, 7-0-1 in the league, and win its second Big South double in the last three years. He helped CU rank fourth nationally in goal differential (+34) and post the lowest goals-against average (0.98) in the Big South. In addition to leading all Campbell field players in minutes played (1867), Mensah dealt six assists (tied for fourth in the conference).
The Fighting Camels open the season with three-straight road matches. Campbell will travel to Houston, Texas to face Incarnate Word (Thursday) and Houston Baptist (Saturday) in the HBU Invitational. The Camels then head to Davidson (Sept. 1) before hosting Coastal Carolina on Labor Day (Sept. 5) in the home opener.
Fifteen men's players and 15 women's players become Hermann Trophy semifinalists on Nov. 30 following completion of Division I All-America voting following the fall season. Then on Dec. 7, the top three players from a final round of voting are the 2021 finalists. The 2022 winner is revealed on Jan. 6, 2023, at a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.
