CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- USC Upstate sophomore midfielder Xavi Wences (Mexico City, Mexico) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while High Point junior defender Finn McRobb (Glasgow, Scotland) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 12-18, it was announced today.  In addition, Presbyterian College defender Vidar Ragnarsson (Reykjanesbaer, Iceland) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.

Wences scored the eventual game-winning goal and handed out an assist in USC Upstate’s crosstown win over Wofford last Saturday. The midfielder’s assist was recorded in the 45th minute before the halftime whistle and gave the Spartans a 2-0 advantage. His lone goal of the match came in the 49th minute and extended USC Upstate’s lead to 3-0.

Ragnarsson came from the PC backline and scored the 80th-minute game winner at Wofford last Tuesday to extend the Blue Hose’s winning streak to five straight victories to open the season. Presbyterian’s defense held the Terriers to just five shots on goal and without a corner kick in the match.
