Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Sept. 6

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) Campbell forward Daniel Hernandez (Bogota, Colombia) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate goalkeeper Sean Ellis (Detroit, Mich.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Aug. 29-Sept. 4, it was announced today.  In addition, Presbyterian goalkeeper Leo Stritter (Eschborn, Germany) is the Freshman of the Week.

Hernandez accounted for all the scoring in Campbell’s 2-0 win over Davidson last Thursday.  He first stole the ball in the midfield and broke away for a right-footed shot inside the near post to give the Camels a 1-0 lead at 33:42.  Hernandez later assisted on the final goal at 61:15.

Ellis earned the 2-0 shutout victory over Davidson with three saves in 90 minutes in net.  He faced 11 total shots, and charged off his line in the 50th minute to save a shot that preserved the squad’s 1-0 advantage at the time.

Stritter earned two wins and posted a 0.00 goals against average with six saves in 148:58 minutes last week.  Saturday vs. VMI, Stritter faced 10 shots and collected five saves as the Blue Hose downed VMI, 1-0.

Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Marco Magnoli (Longwood), Gerard Lopez (Presbyterian) and Brendan Herb (UNC Asheville).

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Connor Hudson (Presbyterian) and Luca Bulfon (USC Upstate).
