Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 23
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – USC Upstate forward Braiden Hall (London, England) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while High Point's Seth Antwi (Kuntanase, Ashanti Region) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 16-22, it was announced today. In addition, Panther goalkeeper Josh Caron (Palm Harbor, Fla.) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
Hall combined for five points on two goals and one assist in two matches last week. On Tuesday, he broke through for two goals on four shots in 69 minutes at College of Charleston, his first two-goal performanmce of the season. The sophomore then connected with teammate Luke Halkett in the 33rd minute on Saturday to help Upstate jump on top of Gardner-Webb, 1-0, in a pivotal victory for the Spartans in Spartanburg.
Antwi scored one goal in two matches last week while spearheading the Panthers to back-to-back shutouts against North Carolina State and UNC Asheville. The defensive midfielder helped anchor High Point’s defensive efforts against N.C. State, holding the Wolfpack scoreless in a 0-0 draw in Raleigh. Antwi then came through on the offensive end on Saturday, scoring his second goal of the season in the 21st minute as HPU raced past UNC Asheville on the road, 4-0.
Caron played all 180 minutes in between the pipes while posting consecutive shutouts for High Point. He faced five shots and made three saves in a scoreless draw at North Carolina State to begin the week, and he followed up with another two saves on five shots in Saturday’s 4-0 victory over the Bulldogs in Asheville. He closed out the week with an unblemished 1.000 save percentage on 10 total shots faced.
