Big South Announces Women's Golfers of the Week - Oct. 27
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – UNC Asheville’s
Madyson Gold (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) has been named the Big South Women’s Golfer of the Week, while Winthrop’s
Constanca Mendonca (Lisboa, Portgual) is the Women’s Freshman of the Week for events played Oct. 19-25, it was announced today.
Gold carded a 1-under 215 (70-76-69) at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational (par 72, 6,208 yards), good for a tie for 12th. Her final round 69 was a season-low, she was -3 on the par-4 holes, finished 2-under on the par-5 layouts, and was tied for second in the 95-player field with 13 birdies.
Mendonca finished runner-up at the Terrier Intercollegiate (par 72, 6,056 yards) with a 1-under 215 (66-70-79). Her first round 6-under 66 established a program record, and she broke the school 36-hole mark by four strokes (-8). Mendonca missed the program 54-hole record by one stroke, led the field in par 3 scoring (-3), and tied for the most birdies with 13.
