Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 9

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– High Point forward Noah Holmes (Cary, N.C.) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville defender Myles Edmondson (Oldham, Manchester, United Kingdom) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 2-8, it was announced today. In addition, Presbyterian College midfielder Sandro Rabarivony (Auxerre, France) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.

 

Holmes combined for seven points on three goals and one assist in two wins last week for High Point. He opened the scoring in the 22nd minute in Monday night’s 2-1 win at Radford, and he followed up with another two goals and one assist – a five-point night – in Saturday’s 4-0 victory at Longwood. The Panthers currently sit atop the Big South standings with an unblemished 3-0-0 record.

 

Edmondson tallied an assist to help UNC Asheville earn a point in Friday night’s 2-2 draw at Gardner-Webb. All square early on, Edmondson found teammate Sergio Báguena for a goal in the 13th minute to put the Bulldogs ahead in the first half. He went on to finish with two shots in 73 total minutes of action while holding the Runnin’ Bulldogs to two goals – one of which came via penalty kick. 

 

Rabarivony posted on one goal and one assist in two matches last week, with all three of his points coming on the road in a conference win at USC Upstate. After falling behind early, he evened the match at 1-1 with his second-career goal in the 14th minute. He then tacked on an assist in the 61st minute – the first of his career – to add to the Blue Hose’s lead in a 4-2 victory in Spartanburg. PC remains unbeaten in Big South play this season at 2-0-1. 

 

Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Damorny Hutchinson (Presbyterian), Brendan Herb (UNC Asheville) and Ricardo Ferreira (Winthrop).
