CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Campbell junior midfielder Sam Bischoff (Pomona, N.Y.) has been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Camel senior defender Shae Fitzgerald (New Market, Md.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played during the opening weekend of the season (Feb. 10-12), it was announced today. In addition, Campbell midfielder Delaney Nicolaus (Fallston, Md.) has been named the Freshman of the Week.

Bischoff posted career-highs with 10 points and eight goals in Campbell’s season-opening 18-7 win over Stetson, adding two assists, eight draw controls, four ground balls and one caused turnover. Eleven of her 15 shots went on frame, as she netted four goals before halftime with another four goals and two assists in the second half. The Pomona, N.Y. native finished just one goal and one point shy of tying all-time individual single-game records for the Camels.

Fitzgerald anchored Campbell’s defensive unit that held the Hatters to just seven goals in Saturday’s season opener. She caused three turnovers, scooped up four ground balls and recorded six draw controls while limiting Stetson to only four goals on 14 shots in the second half. Her three caused turnovers set a new personal best, while her four ground balls tie a career mark that she set last season.

Playing in her first-career game, Nicolaus scored one goal and added three ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover to help propel the Camels to victory. Her first-career goal came at the 7:16 mark of the second quarter when the Fallston, Md. native earned a free-position attempt that she went on to convert to double Campbell’s lead early on, 4-2.
