PRINCETON, N.J. – Following the program's winningest season since 2016-17 and the program's second-ever appearance in the semifinal round of the Big South Men's Basketball Championship, USC Upstate's historic season will continue as the program has accepted an invitation to compete in the College Basketball Invitational -- the highest level of postseason basketball for the during the Spartans' Division I era (2007-pres.).

The CBI is a single-elimination, 16-team tournament that includes teams not selected for the NCAA Tournament and the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), sitting third in the NCAA Division I postseason hierarchy. The 15th iteration of the tournament takes place March 18-22 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. with the first two rounds broadcast on FloHoops and the semifinal and championship rounds airing on ESPN2.

The selection marks the sixth all-time national postseason tournament appearance for the Spartans since joining the Division I ranks ahead of the 2007-08 season. The 2022-23 season marks the program's first appearance in the CBI following five appearances (2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2016-17, and 2021-22) in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament/The Basketball Classic.

Upstate enters the 2023 CBI with a 3-5 national postseason tournament record after splitting a pair of games, defeating Appalachian State and falling to South Alabama, during last season's The Basketball Classic presented by Eracism.
