Big South Announces Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week - March 14
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Mercer junior attack Maddie Koury (Birchrunville, Pa.) has been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Furman sophomore goalie Lily Rathbun (Falls Church, Va.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played March 6-12, it was announced today. In addition, Wofford midfielder Emma Stalteri (Fredericksburg, Va.) has been named the Freshman of the Week.
Koury posted a total of 10 points on eight goals and two assists in two wins last week over George Washington and Manhattan. Opening the week on the road, she logged a hat trick and an assist in a 19-7 victory over the Colonials on Tuesday. She followed that up with a career-high five-goal performance on Sunday while adding another assist in the Bears’ commanding 20-6 home win over Manhattan. All eight of Koury’s shots on the week went for goals, while she also added two ground balls and one caused turnover.
Rathbun combined for 28 saves and a .596 save percentage in cage for Furman in a pair of victories over Stonehill and Old Dominion. Highlighted by a record day against ODU, she logged a career-high 16 saves while only allowing eight goals in the Paladins’ narrow 9-8 victory against the Monarchs. Prior to that, Rathbun made 12 saves while allowing 11 goals in a 12-11 victory over Stonehill on Tuesday. Overall for the week, the Falls Church, Va. native yielded only 19 goals in 120 combined minutes in between the pipes, and also added nine ground balls, including a season-high six in the win over ODU.
Stalteri rounded out the week with five goals, two caused turnovers and four ground balls to help lead Wofford to a pair of one-goal victories. She opened the week by scoring her first-career hat trick with three goals and a ground ball in the Terriers’ 15-14 win over Xavier on Tuesday. She then tallied another two goals against Kennesaw State on Saturday while adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers, including a critical forced turnover in the fourth quarter to help seal a seven-goal comeback.
