NEW ORLEANS, La. -- High Point University track and field assistant coach Scott Houston has been recognized as the Southeast Region Women's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year as announced by the USTFCCCA on Thursday, March 16th. Houston coached Panther pole vaulters to a Big South Indoor Championships podium sweep that saw three HPU women qualify for the indoor national championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Houston, in his seventh year as assistant coach, is the first coach at HPU to earn a coach of the year award from the USTFCCCA. At the NCAA Indoor Championships, his crew was led by Rachel Vesper, who earned First Team All-America honors. It marked the fifth-straight NCAA Championship meet that a High Point women's pole vaulter has earned First Team All-America status. At the conference championships, his vaulters swept places 1-5 and were led by Sydney Horn, who vaulted a new Big South record and personal best mark of 4.50m.
