Big South Announces Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week - March 28

Ashlyn Grogan (Williamsburg, Va.) has been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Highlander junior goalkeeper
Olivia Hunter (Mechanicsville, Va.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played March 20-26, it was announced today. In addition, Radford midfielder
Mady Cheney (Georgetown, Texas) has been named the Freshman of the Week.
Grogan combined for six goals and eight assists for a total of 14 points in two Radford wins last week. She also tallied three ground balls and finished with a .667 shot on goal percentage. The Williamsburg, Va. native opened the week with three goals and two assists, adding one ground ball as the Highlanders beat Delaware State on Thursday, 16-11. Grogan followed up on Saturday with a career-high nine points on three goals and six assists, another career mark for the junior, as the Highlanders raced past the Zips, 14-3.
Hunter was excellent in two wins in goal for Radford, racking up a combined 19 saves while allowing only 14 goals in two full games between the pipes. She also finished with eight ground balls and a .576 save percentage while allowing an average of just 7.00 goals per contest. Hunter made seven saves on 18 shots on goal in Thursday’s 16-11 victory over the Hornets. She then tallied 12 saves on 15 shots on goal in a dominant showing against Akron on Saturday, limiting her opponent to just three goals while posting an .800 save percentage on the day.
Cheney also played a big part in two Radford wins as the freshman combined for six goals, five ground balls, nine draw controls and four caused turnovers. She opened the week with a career-high four goals against Delaware State, adding four draw controls and a career-high three ground balls. In Saturday’s win over the Zips, she added another multi-score game with two goals to go along with two ground balls and five draw controls while setting yet another career-high with three caused turnovers.
