Gardner-Webb & High Point Lead 2023 Women's Golf Championship After First Round
GREENWOOD, S.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –
Gardner-Webb and
High Point each finished with a 15-over 303 and hold a four-shot lead after the first round of the 2023 Big South Women's Golf Championship on Wednesday.
Campbell sits in third-place at 19-over 307, with
USC Upstate in fourth at 21-over 309. The Championship is being contested at The Links at Stoney Point (par 72, 6,293 yards) in Greenwood, S.C.
Two strokes separate the next four teams on the leaderboard.
UNC Asheville and
Longwood are tied for fifth at 313, followed by
Charleston Southern in seventh (314) and
Presbyterian in eighth (315). Individually, 2021 Big South Medalist
Beem Pabsimma of USC Upstate and Gardner-Webb's
Linnea Hofgren share the 18-hole lead at 1-under 71. High Point teammates
Sarah Kahn (3rd - 72) and
Danielle Suh (4th - 74) follow, with three players tied for fifth at 75 -- Radford's
Natalie Welsh, GWU's
Neza Siftar and Campbell's
Isabella Hahne. Hofgren was the lone player to finish under-par on par-4 holes (-3) in the first round, and matched Campbell's
Tomita Arejola for the most birdies with five.
