Big South Announces Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week - April 25

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Furman attacker Anna Roser (Easton, Md.) has been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Mercer goalkeeper Kate Vanderlinde (St. Johns, Fla.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played April 17-23, it was announced today. In addition, Gardner-Webb attacker Rylee Gonzalez (Syracuse, N.Y.) has been named the Freshman of the Week.

Roser totaled 13 points on seven goals and six assists in two games last week. She added six draw controls, one caused turnover and one ground ball, and nine of her 11 shots went on target ( =81.8 percent). Roser opened the week by leading the Paladins with five points on three goals and two assists on Monday against Virginia Tech. She also tallied one draw control. Returning to league play against Gardner-Webb on Saturday, she posted four goals, a career-high four assists and five draw controls, as well as one caused turnover and one ground ball in Furman’s 22-16 home victory over the Runnin’ Bulldogs. 

In Mercer’s lone game of the week, Vanderlinde made five saves and logged a strong .714 save percentage en route to picking up the victory in cage. A senior goalkeeper, she allowed only two goals on the entire day as the Bears took down Radford, 18-2, to remain unbeaten in conference play.

Gonzalez rounded out the week with seven points on three goals and four assists to help Gardner-Webb split a pair of league matchups. She also tallied one ground ball and one caused turnover while scoring on all three of her shot attempts. Gonzalez scored one goal and dished out one assist on Wednesday, adding a ground ball and caused turnover to boost the Runnin’ Bulldogs over Presbyterian College in a one-score game, 13-12. The freshman followed up with three assists and five total points at Furman, both career-highs, as she tacked on two goals for her third multi-goal contest this season.

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Rebekah Taylor (Campbell), Lily Rathbun (Furman), Heather Lobas (Gardner-Webb), Jenna Kraft (High Point) and Amelia Carlile (Longwood).

Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Grace Gibson (Furman) and Sophia Passa (Longwood).
