Seedings Announced for 2023 Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) -- For the first time, associate member
Mercer University has earned the No. 1 seed in the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Championship and will host the league’s four-team postseason tournament this weekend, it was announced today. The Bears finished a perfect 9-0 in league matches and are the outright Big South regular-season champions for the first time. Mercer is seeking its second consecutive Big South Tournament crown in two years of associate membership.
Furman, Campbell and
High Point tied for second in the conference standings at 7-2. Since the teams went 1-1 against each other, and had the same won/loss result against the remaining schools, the tiebreaker process reached the third level -- RPI rank to the thousandth. Furman receives the No. 2 seed based on its updated season RPI value of .497 (63 RPI), Campbell is the No. 3 seed with its RPI value of .492 (66), with High Point as the fourth and final seed with its RPI value of .486 (69).
The 2023 Big South Women’s Lacrosse Championship will be played Friday, May 5 (semifinals) and Sunday, May 7 (championship) at Five Star Stadium on the campus of Mercer University in Macon, Ga. High Point will face off against top seed Mercer in the first semifinal match on Friday, May 5 at 4:00pm. Furman and Campbell will meet in the second semifinal later that evening at 7:00pm. All three matches of the tournament will be broadcast on ESPN+, and the Big South’s tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
