CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- USC Upstate’s Denver Lauer (Olney, Md.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week, while teammate Alyssa Kelly (Spring Hill, Fla.) is the Pitcher of the Week for games played the final week of the regular-season, it was announced today.  In addition, Longwood’s Maryanna Guy (Brandon, Miss.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.

Lauer batted 1.000 (7-7) in three games from her leadoff spot with four runs scored, four RBI, two home runs, four waks and seven stolen bases, while recording a 1.000 on-base percentage and 1.857 slugging clip.  She helped the Spartans to a three-game sweep of Presbyterian and clinch the No. 3 seed in this week’s Big South Softball Championship.  Lauer went 2-2 with an RBI, two walks and two steals in game one, was 3-3 with a homer, two runs and three swipes in game two, and went 2-2 with two runs, two RBI, two walks, two steals and a home run in the finale.

Kelly was 2-0 in the circle with a 0.00 earned run average in 12.0 innings, and hurled her first career no-hitter.  She allowed just five hits in six innings and struck out four batters in a complete game, 8-0 victory over Presbyterian on Friday.  Kelly then fanned six in her 6.0-inning no-no on Saturday, as she won that contest 8-0 as well.

Guy went 3-7 (.429) with two home runs and four RBI in helping the Lancers to a 2-1 series win over Campbell and clinch a share of the regular-season title as well as the No. 1 seed in this week’s Softball Championship.  Her home run in game one against the Camels closed Longwood’s deficit to one run.  Guy’s two-run homer in game two of the series extended the Lancers’ lead to 4-0.  She singled in her lone at-bat in Sunday’s finale to help Longwood take the lead for good.
