Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Sept. 18

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– High Point midfielder Jefferson Amaya (Charlotte, N.C.) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Panther defender Finn McRobb (Glasgow, Scotland) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 11-17, it was announced today. 

 

Amaya scored one goal and assisted on another while registering points in both matches last week for High Point. He netted his first score of the season on Wednesday as he buried a penalty kick in the ninth minute to give HPU an early lead over Elon. On Saturday, he then helped the Panthers put away the match in the 58th minute when he sent in a perfectly placed corner kick to the head of McRobb who capitalized for a score in a 3-1 home victory over UNC Greensboro. 

 

McRobb capped off the week with two goals and four points as the senior found the back of the net in both matches for High Point. The Glasgow, Scotland native struck for the first time against Elon, doing so in the 17th minute from inside the box to put HPU ahead, 2-0. He followed up with his third goal of the year on Saturday, this time redirecting a corner kick past the goalkeeper in the 58th minute to go up big on UNC Greensboro, 3-0. 

 

Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Alex Abril (High Point) and Edvin Grolimund (UNC Asheville).

 

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Max Hinke (Longwood) and Viðar Ragnarsson (UNC Asheville).
