Big South Announces Women's Golfers of the Week - Sept. 21
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Radford’s Macy Johnson (Salem, Va.) has been named the Big South Women’s Golfer of the Week, while USC Upstate’s Supatta Puttanavarat (Chonburi, Thailand) is the Women’s Freshman of the Week for events played Sept. 14-20, it was announced today.
Johnson took home medalist honors at the Elon Women’s Invitational (par 71, 6,065 yards) to lead Radford to its first team title since 2010. She finished with a 2-under par 211 (73-70-68) after closing with a final round of 3-under to claim individual honors by two strokes over the 85-player field. The freshman’s performance helped the Highlanders set new program records for both 36-hole (580) and 54-hole (864) team scores.
Puttanavarat finished seventh out of 85 golfers at the Elon Women’s Invitational. Making her Spartan debut, she fired a 3-over 216 (72-68-76) for the tournament, including a 3-under 68 in the second round, marking the lowest total for a freshman debut in program history and the third-lowest total by a Spartan freshman all-time. Her efforts also led USC Upstate to a tie for its lowest-ever 54-hole scoring total (871).
