Big South Announces Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Jan. 24
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions during the weekend of Jan. 18-21.
High Point’s
Katie Taylor (Tipp City, Ohio) was selected as the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Panthers’ pole vaulter
Sydney Horn (Lancaster, Pa.) earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, with HPU’s
Brianna Malone (Barrington, N.H.) honored as the Women’s Freshman Athlete of the Week.
Taylor ran a school-record time of 9:32.35 in winning the 3,000m at the Hokie Invitational. Her effort is the second-fastest time in Big South history.
Horn cleared 4.34m in the pole vault at the Hokie Invitational to finish fifth in the event.
Malone re-set her personal best in the mile run with a time of 4:50.79 at the Hokie Invitational, the eighth-best mark in conference history. She placed fifth in the race and shaved five seconds off her previous PR. Malone later competed in the 3000m run and finished third with a time of 9:44.37.
