High Point's Anna Howerton Voted 2024 Preseason Women's Golfer of the Year

Anna Howerton has been voted the first-ever Big South Preseason Women's Golfer of the Year, it was announced today. The award is voted on by the league’s head coaches and is based on this past fall season’s results entering the 2024 spring campaign.
Howerton finished the 2023 fall season with a 73.60 stroke average and was the Medalist at the UNCG Collegiate at Grandover, which she won by seven strokes with a 15-under 201 (66-67-68). Her first round 6-under 66 broke the school record for lowest 18-hole score, and she also established program records for lowest 36-hole (133) and 54-hole (201) scores during the event. Howerton, currently ranked No. 233 nationally, was the Big South Golfer of the Week following her victory in October, and was also a two-time Freshman of the Week honoree in the fall. Howerton had two Top 10 finishes, while her round of 66 is tied as the conference’s lowest 18-hole score of the season.
The 2024 spring season begins this weekend with High Point in action. The 2024 Big South Women's Golf Championship will contested April 14-17 at the Ocean Creek Golf Course on Fripp Island, S.C. The championship will feature 54 holes of stroke play followed by a four-team Match Play Semifinal and Final to determine the Big South’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
