Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 7

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– High Point forward Alfred Baafi (Techiman, Ghana) and Presbyterian College forward Damorney Hutchinson (St. Thomas, Jamaica) have been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while High Point defender Jefferson Amaya (Charlotte, N.C.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 30-Oct. 6, it was announced today. In addition, Presbyterian midfielder Morgan Dance (Worcester, England) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.

Baafi scored in both of High Point’s matches last week, including the game-winner in a 1-0 upset over No. 17 Elon. The junior netted the match’s only goal unassisted in the 11th minute, converting his lone shot of the game. He followed up with another goal on four shots in a 4-1 victory at USC Upstate on Saturday night.

Hutchinson tallied two goals, one assist and the game-winner in Presbyterian’s 3-2 road win at Radford. He opened the scoring for PC in the 22nd minute, then added an assist in the 34th to extend the lead to 2-0. After the Highlanders tied the game, Hutchinson netted his league-leading seventh goal of the season in the 66th minute to secure the victory for the Blue Hose.
 
Amaya helped High Point blank No. 17 Elon and then registered three points in a league win over USC Upstate. Playing at center back, Amaya and the Panthers' defense held the ranked Phoenix to zero shots on goal in a 1-0 victory on the road. He then assisted on the game-winning goal in a comeback effort against the Spartans on Saturday night before adding a goal of his own in the 63rd minute to extend the HPU lead to 3-1. 
 
Dance scored his first career goal in Presbyterian’s 3-2 road win at Radford, finding the net on his only shot of the game at the 33:11 mark to give the Blue Hose a two-goal lead. His goal came during his 29 minutes on the field, marking the first two points of his collegiate career.
