Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Dec. 16

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – USC Upstate forward Breylin Garcia (La Romana, Dominican Republic) has been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville guard/forward Kameron Taylor (Charlotte, N.C.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Dec. 9-15, it was announced today.

Garcia posted a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double off the bench at South Carolina on Saturday -- the first double-double by a Spartan this season.  He was Upstate’s top scorer against the Gamecocks, as well as the lone Spartan in double figures, while his 13 boards were a career-high.  Garcia was 7-of-12 from the field ( =58.3 percent) and tallied nine defensive rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.

Taylor averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in two wins last week for the Bulldogs.  He posted his two highest scoring outputs of the season as he scored a career-high 14 points against Bluefield last Wednesday before adding 13 in Saturday’s victory over Western Carolina.  Taylor shot .500 from the floor in each contest and was 10-of-18 overall in the two contests ( =55.6 percent).  He had five rebounds, four assists and two steals vs. Bluefield, and made 4-of-6 field goals plus all five free throws vs. the Catamounts.
