Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Dec. 2

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– UNC Asheville guard Dakota McCaughan (Secane, Pa.) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while USC Upstate guard Cassie Gallagher (Cookeville, Tenn.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Nov. 25-Dec. 1, it was announced today.
 
McCaughan averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals last week for UNC Asheville, shooting 48.0 percent from three (12-of-25). She scored a career-high 29 points in an overtime loss at Tennessee State, tying the program’s single-game record with nine three-pointers (9-of-16) and dishing out a career-best seven assists. Her 29 points are the most by a Big South player this season. Earlier in the week, the fifth-year guard posted 13 points, five assists, and two steals at Wofford.
 
Gallagher scored in double figures in all three games for the Spartans, averaging 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. She shot 42.1 percent from three (8-of-19) and added four steals and two blocks. The Cookeville, Tenn., native opened with 13 points, a career-high four triples, two steals, and a block in a win over Clinton College. She followed with 12 points and seven rebounds versus Morehead State before capping the week with a career-best 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists against Bellarmine.
