Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Dec. 23

Ashley Hawkins (Long Beach, Calif.) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Radford guard
Adelyn Traylor-Walker (Franklin, Ind.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Dec. 16-22, it was announced today.
Hawkins broke the Big South single-game scoring record with 47 points in a triple-overtime thriller against Queens, adding six rebounds, five assists, and six steals. The senior averaged 32.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.0 steals across two games for the week. In Friday’s marathon, Hawkins shot 15-of-35 ( =42.9 percent) from the field, 14-of-20 ( =70.0 percent) from the free-throw line, and knocked down three 3-pointers. She scored 35 points in regulation and added 12 more during three overtime periods, playing 52 of 55 minutes, including all 15 in overtime. She also sank two clutch free throws with five seconds left in regulation to put the Runnin’ Bulldogs up by two and then hit a buzzer-beating layup in the first overtime to keep the game alive. Earlier in the week, Hawkins posted 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists at Hampton, finishing a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Traylor-Walker delivered a career-high 21 points on a flawless 8-for-8 shooting performance to push the Highlanders back into the win column in their lone game of the week against UVA Wise. The Franklin, Ind. native also tallied three rebounds and three assists while going a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 at the free-throw line. She scored 10 points in the first quarter alone, including a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining to push Radford’s lead to 13 before the horn, and added eight points in the second half.
