Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Dec. 9

RJ Johnson (Matthews, N.C.) has been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while USC Upstate guard
Carmelo Adkins (Lubbock, Texas) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Dec. 2-8, it was announced today.
Johnson averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 assists and 1.0 steals in two games for the Buccaneers. He opened his week with a season-high 30 points along with six assists in leading CSU to an 83-68 victory over UT Martin last Tuesday. Johnson then tallied 17 points, three assists and two steals in a one-point setback at Davidson on Friday. For the week, he was 16-of-30 from the field ( =53.3 percent), 7-of-15 from three-point range ( =46.7) and made all eight free throws.
Adkins led Upstate in scoring with 15.5 points while adding 6.0 rebounds per contest in two wins. After a 17-point, 7-rebound, 3-assist performance against Brevard on Wednesday, Adkins scored 14 points and grabbed five boards in the Spartans’ victory at Western Carolina on Saturday. For the week, he shot 56.3 percent from the floor (9-of-16), 54.5 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-11) and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe (7-of-8).
