High Point Leads 2024 Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships After Day 1

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- High Point University leads the 2024 Big South Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship following the first day of competition, as the Panthers won the high jump and shot put as part of its 61.33 points on Friday.  Charleston Southern is second with 44 points, followed by Radford in third-place (34.5), UNC Asheville in fourth (32.33), Gardner-Webb in fifth (30.83), Winthrop in sixth (18) and USC Upstate in seventh (12).

Radford's Distance Medley Relay team of Kate McLearen, Jordan Jackson, Sophie Magson and 11:55.53 won the event with a Championship Meet record of 11:47.02, surpassing the old Conference Meet best of 11:55.53 set by Liberty in 2018.  Radford's Chloe Wellings crossed the finish line first in the 5000m to become the first Highlander ever to win the event at the conference championship.

High Point's Sydney Koker repeated as the high jump champion, and Letizia Marsico captured the shot put to become the Panthers' first conference champion in that event.  Charleston Southern's Chloe Greene won her second consecutive pentathlon -- just the fourth back-to-back champion in the event in league history.  UNC Asheville's Brianna Moore was the long jump winner with a PR leap of 5.86m.
