Big South Announces Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - March 21

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions this past weekend of March 14-17.  Charleston Southern’s Jewel Ash (Voorhees, N.J.) was selected as the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate thrower Zemaya Carson (Warner Robins, Ga.) earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.  USC Upstate’s Jordan Thornton (Sumter, S.C.) is the Women’s Freshman of the Week.
 
Ash ran a 60.73 to win the 400mH at the Charleston Southern Buccaneer Invitational.
 
Carson won the discus at the Buccaneer Invitational with a school-record throw of 50.07m.  That effort ranks 10th all-time in Big South history.
 
Thornton posted a time of 17:50.77 in the 5000m run at the Charlotte 49er Classic.  Her performance was 20th overall in the event, and seventh all-time in school history.
