Changes Atop Individual Leaderboard Following Second Round of Women's Golf Championship
FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –
Charleston Southern University increased its lead of the 2024 Women's Golf Championship following the second round of play on Monday, as the Buccaneers picked up four strokes to sit at 597 after 36 holes.
USC Upstate moved up two spots and sits in a second-place tie with
High Point at 603, while
Longwood dropped down into fourth-place at 607. Meanwhile, Upstate’s
Preaw Nontarux was one of two players under-par on Monday with a 71, and enters the final round atop the leaderboard with CSU’s
Odette Font Garcia at 3-over 147. The Championship is being contested at Ocean Creek Golf Course (par 72, 6,004 yards) on Fripp Island, S.C.
The Spartans had the best team round of the day at 300, which moved Upstate up from fourth-place. The top four team finishers after 54-holes of stroke play advance to Wednesday’s Match Play Semifinals & Championship.
Following Nontarux and Font Garcia, the Buccaneers’
Katie Stephens posted the low round of the day at 2-under 70 to jump 20 spots into solo third-place at 148. Three players share the fourth-spot at 149 -- High Point’s
Anna Howerton (77-72), Upstate’s
Suwarin Yord-in (76-73) and HPU’s
Julia McLaughlin (73-76). High Point’s
Ella Perna and first round leader
Caroline Engelbredt of Charleston Southern sit in seventh-place at 150, while four players are tied for ninth at 151. Charleston Southern, USC Upstate and High Point will be paired together in the final round.
