Big South Announces Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week - April 16
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Mercer attacker Caroline Glus (Hershey, Pa.) has been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while High Point defender Sydney Martin (Vienna, Va.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played April 8-14, it was announced today. In addition, Longwood attacker Holly Hill (Fairfax, Va.) has been named the Freshman of the Week.
Glus tallied nine goals and four assists to lead Mercer to a pair of Big South wins. She opened the week with a game-high six points in a win at Furman, including a career-high five goals with one assist. She followed up with a career-high seven points on Saturday behind four goals and three assists, another career-high for the freshman, as the Bears overtook Longwood to remain the only unbeaten team this season in league play.
Martin posted five caused turnovers and five ground balls while anchoring a High Point defense that limited its two opponents to only 14 combined goals in two commanding wins. On Wednesday, she caused one turnover while holding Presbyterian to a season-low four goals. She then had a career day versus Radford on Saturday, scooping a career-high five ground balls and causing a career-high four turnovers as the Panthers raced to a fourth-straight win, 20-10.
Hill combined for seven goals, five assists and one ground ball last week for the Lancers. She ripped off a career-best eight points on a career-high five goals and three assists to open the week in a win at Stetson, and she followed up with another two goals and three assists on Saturday against league-leading Mercer, as she had a hand in almost half of Longwood’s goals for the game.
