Big South Announces Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - April 24

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions this past weekend of April 18-21.  High Point’s Jake Tarosky (North Huntington, Pa.) was voted Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, teammate Chris Van Niekerk (Sasolburg, South Africa) is the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honoree, while Charleston Southern’s Carl Murray IV (Atlanta, Ga.) was selected the Men’s Freshman of the Week.
 
Tarosky recorded the Big South’s top mark this season in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 8:56.85 at the Wake Forest Invitational.
 
Van Niekerk earned two medals at the Wake Forest Invitational.  He won the discus with a throw of 55.19m, and placed second in the shot put with a distance of 18.37m, which is the top effort in the Big South this season.
 
Murray placed eighth overall in the 100m dash at the Georgia Tech Invitational with a time of 10.53 in a field of nearly 100 competitors.  It is the sixth-fastest 100m time in the conference this year, and tops among all league freshmen.  Murray also finished ninth in the 200m with a time of 21.54, just .01 off his season-best effort.
