Mercer Clinches Share of Women's Lacrosse Regular-Season Championship
Mercer clinched a share of the Big South women's lacrosse regular-season championship on Wednesday and will be the No. 1 seed in next week's conference tournament. Winthrop, High Point and Furman were also victorious on Wednesday.

With a 21-13 win at Wofford on Wednesday evening, the Mercer women's lacrosse team clinched at least a share of the Big South regular season championship. It is Mercer's third consecutive Big South regular season title in as many years since joining the Big South in the 2022 season. The win guarantees Mercer tte No. 1 seed in the Big South Tournament which the Bears will host in Macon, May 3-5. Mercer can win the regular season championship outright with a win at Radford Saturday which would be Mercer's second consecutive season going undefeated in the Big South.

Scarlet Cifarelli's goal with nearly nine minutes left capped a second half comeback at Presbyterian to end the 2024 campaign for the Eagles as Winthrop defeated the Blue Hose 11-9 on Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, Winthrop ends the season with a final record of 2-13 and 2-6 in the Big South. Winthrop jumped out to a 2-0 lead two minutes into the contest on goals by Claire Witmer and Ellie Dutton. Presbyterian got on the board at the 9:23 mark but the Eagles struck back with consecutive goals by Jordan Ball and Claire Witmer. Presbyterian answered with two straight goals but the Eagles took their lead back to three on goals by Erin Whitaker and Dutton.

The High Point University women's lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season in style behind a 21-8 win over Longwood for the Panthers' seventh straight victory. HPU had 10 different goal scorers as four scored three goals or more, while the defense was electric as the Panthers forced more turnovers (19) than the Lancers had shots (17). It was a close game until it wasn't. After Allie Connally scored her first of fourth with 2:36 remaining in the first quarter to go up 5-4, the Panthers never lost the lead. HPU went on a 17-4 run, including a 9-0 spurt that saw Jordan Miles secure a hat trick. Miles netted four goals in the first half alone, while securing her first three-assist career game in the second half for her first seven-point game.

The Furman women's lacrosse team set a school single-game scoring record on Wednesday evening as eight different Paladins recorded a goal in a 24-5 victory over the Radford Highlanders to conclude the regular season at Paladin Stadium. Furman finishes the regular season with an 8-9 overall record and 6-2 mark in the Big South. With the loss, Radford drops to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The 2024 Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship will be held May 3-5 and hosted by Mercer at Five Star Stadium in Macon, Ga. The Paladins' 24 goals surpassed the previous school record of 23 which came last season in a road win at Wofford. Furman also tallied 33 points which ranks tied for fourth-most in a game in program history.
