Big South Announces Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week - April 30

Bria Foley (Walpole, Mass.) have been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Mercer midfielder
Kayla Soltys (Gainesville, Va.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played the final week of the regular-season, it was announced today. In addition, Mercer midfielder
Ansley Walters (Canton, Ga.) and Gardner-Webb goalkeeper
Emma Anderson (Alpharetta, Ga.) shared Freshman of the Week honors.
DiVirgilio led the Bears to a 3-0 week and the outright Big South regular-season championship with 11 goals, seven assists, 18 points and five ground balls. She opened her week with three goals and three assists in Mercer’s 15-12 victory over East Carolina last Monday, followed by four goals, three helpers and three ground balls in a win over Wofford. DiVirgilio concluded her week with another four goals plus one assist this past Saturday at Radford.
Foley tallied 11 goals, six assists, 17 points and 12 draw controls in two matches last week. She opened with four goals, three assists, three ground balls and four draw controls in the Terriers’ setback at first-place Mercer. Foley then scored seven times and handed out three assists for 10 points in the season-finale against Presbyterian. She also posted eight draw controls in the victory over the Blue Hose.
Soltys amassed 26 draw controls (8.67 per match) along with four ground balls and two caused turnovers in three matches last week. She first had seven draw controls and two ground balls in a victory over East Carolina, then posted nine draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover in a road win at Wofford. Soltys finished her three-game week with 10 draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover in a road triumph at Radford.
Walters corralled 10 ground balls, had eight draw controls and seven caused turnovers in three appearances, in addition to a goal and assist. She started with one goal, three ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover in Mercer’s win over East Carolina, then notched a season-high five caused turnovers plus six ground balls, three draw controls and an assist in a win at Wofford. Walters capped her week with four draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover at Radford.
Anderson made a season-high 18 saves -- third-most in the Big South this season, and had a .600 saves percentage in Gardner-Webb’s one-goal loss at Longwood in the season finale. She played all 60 minutes in the cage for the first time in a conference game this season, and tied for the fewest goals allowed by the Runnin’ Bulldogs this year (12).
