Charleston Southern Concludes Women's Golf Season at NCAA Regionals
BERMUDA RUN, N.C. – Charleston Southern finished their historic season on Wednesday afternoon at the Bermuda Run Country Club. The team took 11th overall at the tournament with a score of +47.
The Buccaneers got off to a slow start with a 308 on day one but followed it with a 301 and 302 in the next two days to close their gap and move up a spot on the leaderboard. They finished just a stroke behind Navy at +46 for 10th and were ahead of #12 Delaware at +53.
Katie Stephens and Odette Font had the best rounds of the Buccaneers on the week with their 74s. Stephens had hers in round two firing a pair of birdies and 37s on the front and back nine. For Font, she had a 35 through her first nine holes and followed it with a 39 on the last nine.
Elsie Verhoeven and Caroline Engelbredt shot 76s in all three rounds of the tournament. They each had even rounds on holes 1-9 on the first round of the week and tallied another even round later in the week as well. Eugenie Varet led the team in birdies as she finished with eight over the three days. Madison Freeman played in the first round of the tournament and had a +9 for it.
The tournament concludes the year for the Buccaneers who took the Big South crown and advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since the 2010 season. They had five All-Conference athletes as well in Engelbredt (1st Team), Freeman (2nd Team), Stephens (2nd), Font (2nd) and Varet (Honorable Mention).
