Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Sept. 23

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– Longwood midfielder Ethan Stevenson (Clover, S.C.) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Winthrop goalkeeper Jack Kilstrom (Bettendorf, Iowa) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 16-22, it was announced today. In addition, High Point forward Frankie DeFrancesco (Wayne, N.J.) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
 
Stevenson recorded his first career hat trick to lead Longwood to a comeback win over Presbyterian in its Big South opener. Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, the senior tied the match with a goal in the 76th minute before adding the game-winner in the 84th. He completed his hat trick with a penalty kick in the final minute. Stevenson took six shots, five of which were on target, during his 77 minutes on the pitch.

Kilstrom posted three saves and a shutout to kickstart Winthrop’s Big South campaign with a 2-0 victory over USC Upstate. His first save came in the 43rd minute to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime, while his second came in the 70th minute. His third and final save came when Upstate pushed numbers forward in the 85th minute to secure the Eagles’ first shutout this season.
 
DeFrancesco netted the opening goal in High Point’s 2-1 win over UNC Asheville to kick off Big South play. The freshman found the back of the net just six minutes in off an assist from Brendan Krueger to break Asheville’s four-game shutout streak and put the Panthers on top early, 1-0. DeFrancesco took two shots during his 49 minutes on the pitch.
 
Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Elias Khodri (Gardner-Webb), Jefferson Amaya (High Point) and Rodrigo Ferreira(Winthrop).
