Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Jan. 20

Nevaeh Zavala (Plano, Texas) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Panthers guard
Dom Nesland (Phoenix, Ariz.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 13-19, it was announced today.
Zavala averaged 25.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks over two games for High Point. She shot 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the field, 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from three and 88.9 percent (8-of-9) from the free-throw line. Zavala opened the week with a career-high 33 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and two steals in a narrow loss to first-place Longwood. She shot 13-of-18 overall against the Lancers, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-of-4 at the line while playing all 40 minutes. She followed that performance with 17 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in a commanding 75-47 win at Presbyterian.
Nesland averaged 11.0 points on 53.8 percent (7-of-13) shooting, 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals for the Panthers. She was 1-of-2 from distance and 7-of-10 ( =70.0 percent) on free throws while reaching double figures in both games. Nesland scored 12 points with six rebounds, a career-high six assists and two steals against Longwood. Three of her rebounds came on the offensive glass. She followed up with 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals in a win against the Blue Hose. The freshman guard committed only three turnovers in 54 minutes for the week.
