Big South Announces Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Jan. 29

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions during the weekend of Jan. 23-26.
 
Charleston Southern’s Micah Gilpatric (Greenville, S.C.) received Men’s Track Athlete of the Week accolades, High Point’s Justin Sluijter (Arkel, Netherlands) was tabbed the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, and the Panthers’ Tim Brown (Davidson, N.C.) was the Men’s Freshman Athlete of the Week honoree.
 
Gilpatric finished fourth in the mile at the Orange & Purple Invitational with a time of 4:05.65, the top performance in the Big South this season.  He was also a member of the winning Distance Medley Relay team that finished with a school-record time of 9:50.36 -- third-fastest in Big South annals.
 
Sluijter won the long jump at the Brant Tolsma Invitational with a HPU-record leap of 7.54m.  That distance ranks sixth all-time in Big South history.
 
Brown finished first in the 400m at the Brant Tolsma Invitational in 47.61 seconds -- breaking his school record time in the event from the week before.  He also ran a personal-best 21.81 in the 200m race to finish seventh.
