Big South Announces Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Jan. 29
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions during the weekend of Jan. 23-26.
High Point’s
Brianna Malone (Barrington, N.H.) was selected the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate
Sydney Horn (Lancaster, Pa.) earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors. HPU’s
Emily Romano (Glen Allen, Va.) was tabbed the Women’s Freshman of the Week.
Malone broke the High Point and Big South record in the 1000m race at the Brant Tolsma Invitational with a time of 2:47.82 to win the event. She also won the 3,000m run in 9:37.28, which is ninth-best in conference history.
Horn won the pole vault at the Brant Tolsma Invitational with a Big South season-best height of 4.37m for her second victory of the indoor season.
Romano cleared 4.02m in the pole vault at the Brant Tolsma Invitational for second-place in the event, and her effort ranks second in the Big South this year and seventh all-time in league history.
