Anna Howerton (Winston-Salem, N.C.) has been voted the Big South Preseason Women's Golfer of the Year, it was announced today. The award is voted on by the league’s head coaches and is based on this past fall season’s results entering the 2025 spring campaign.
Howerton, the 2024 Big South Freshman of the Year, finished the 2024 fall season with a league-leading 71.93 stroke average in five events (14 rounds). She posted three Top 10 finishes, including a runner-up finish at the Pirate Collegiate Classic with a 5-under 139, as well as a fourth-place standing at the Lady Paladin Invitational where she finished with a 6-under 210 (71-71-68) -- tied for the lowest 54-hole score relative to par in the Big South this year. Howerton was one of four Big South golfers with the lowest 18-hole round during the fall season -- a 66 at the season-opening Golfweek Fall Challenge. Currently ranked No. 236 nationally, Howerton carded four rounds in the 60s, and was the Big South Golfer of the Week following her performance in the Lady Paladin Invitational.
The 2025 Big South Women's Golf Championship will again be contested at the Ocean Creek Golf Course on Fripp Island, S.C., and is scheduled for April 13-16. The championship will feature 54 holes of stroke play followed by a four-team Match Play Semifinal and Final to determine the Big South’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
